JOB PURPOSE:
A chemical engineer designs and develops the processes that make a diverse range of products. Their work focuses on changing the chemical, biochemical and physical state of a substance to turn it into something else. They understand how to alter raw materials into required products while taking into consideration health and safety and cost issues.
Job Description :
· Research in the beginning to determine the best way of producing certain products
· Responsible for the chemical, biochemical and/or physical processes that are used to transform raw materials into valuable products.
· Responsible for developing new industrial processes and designing new process plants/equipment or modifying existing ones.
· Supervising plant operations investigating and troubleshooting plant/process problems
· Specialize in a particular process, such as polymerization (making plastics and resins).
· Develop safety procedures , operating equipment or working in close proximity to on-going chemical reactions.
· Determine most effective arrangement of operations of Production.
· Perform laboratory studies of steps in manufacture of new product and test proposed process in small scale operation (pilot plant).
· Develop processes to separate components of liquids or Solid resins using controlled chemical processes.
· Conduct research to develop new and improved chemical manufacturing processes.
· Design measurement and control systems for chemical plants based on data collected in laboratory experiments and in pilot plant operations.
· Design and plan layout of equipment.
· Perform tests throughout stages of production to determine degree of control over variables.
