Job Description

Background
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Country Office for Pakistan (COPAK) is tasked with assisting Pakistan through its Country Programme (CP) 2010-14 with a focus on illicit trafficking and border management, criminal justice and drug demand reduction and HIV/AIDS. UNODC requires the services of driver to be based in Islamabad with regular visits to other cities of Pakistan.
Assignment Objective
The position will provide reliable and safe driving services to UNODC officer ensuring highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The driver also demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Duties and Responsibilities
The driver will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:
1. Ensure provision of reliable and safe driving services by a) driving office vehicles for the safe transport of UNODC, other high-ranking officials and visitors and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items and b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport including visa and customs formalities arrangement when required.
2. Delivering and following up on the requests for visa issuance to the different embassies for the staff members and participants.
3. Ensure cost-saving through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
4. Ensure proper day to day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, water, battery etc.
5. Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle. Logging official trips , daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.;
6. Ensure that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
7. Supervise the junior driving staff and assign duties to them as and when required.
8. Receive emails, phone calls from the management and assign duties to the other drivers. Coordinate between management and other junior drivers.
9. Supervise on sight maintenance of the vehicles.
10. Should any vehicle be involved in an accident, ensuring that the steps required by UN/UNODC/UNDSS rules and regulations are followed and
11. Reports any accident or driving incident, even minor, to the Administrative Associate as quickly as possible and completes necessary reports.
12. Act as messenger for official purposes when require.
13. The driver may also be required to overtime on weekends and public/UN holidays.
14. Perform other duties as required or assigned by the supervisor.
Education and Experience:
1. Holds valid LTV driving license;
2. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations;
3. Minimum 10 years of driving experience with safe driving record, preferably with a multi-national / international organization; UN experience would be an added advantage;
4. Familiarity with key locations throughout Pakistan especially in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
5. Good spoken and written Urdu and moderate level of communicating in English.
Methodology
The driver will need to be based in the UNODC Country Office Pakistan, Islamabad in order to complete the deliverables required under this position.
Planning and Implementation Arrangements
The driver will report to the Administrative Associate.
Payment Schedule and Rate
The driver will be issued an SC contract in accordance with United Nations rules and procedures. Payment scale will be determined by UNDP recommended rates for service contract holders. Travel costs including transportation and DSA for domestic and international travel will be paid by UNODC in accordance with United Nations rules and procedures.

- HEC Attested degrees are a pre-requisite for employment at UNDP. During the recruitment process candidates may be required to present HEC attested degrees.
- Foreign Qualified Candidates: Foreign-degree holders shall be required to (i) Present a verification/certification letter from the university verifying the degree & student enrollment, or (ii) Foreign degree Equivalence Letter from HEC.
