Job Description

Under the technical supervision of the WHO provincial team lead and under the overall supervision of the WHO Representative the incumbent will work as a member of the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) / Emergency Response Unit Karachi/Sukkur:

Function 1: Provide technical support to Provincial EOC / Sukkur ERU

· Act as EOC’s focal point for highest risk districts/areas
· Regular collate, analyse and interpret polio and other risk data from these areas
· Prepare situational analyses and reports, and issue recommendations to management about appropriate measures
· Monitor and evaluate strategies and implementation of NEAP work plans

Function 2: Provide field support to high risk and outbreak areas

· Assist local authorities to timely initiate and implement a high quality response to any emergent polio situation
· Coordinate technical response between local authorities and partners
· Ensure that a comprehensive response strategy is drawn up as per NEAP, including a risk and needs assessment
· Define and request support needed from EOC and partners
· Ensure that EOC is well informed on issues related to the response and the risk management of all areas of operations
· Ensure that a final document will be produced with clear recommendations for future responses
· Cover exceptional shortages of WHO technical field activity


Function 3: Provide support in capacity building and supervision of field staff

· Plan and conduct regular/periodic visits to high risk districts to assist in planning, supervision and monitoring of supplementary immunization activities
· Support and motivate local staff to ensure that they have clear objectives and receive meaningful feedback
· Where appropriate, ensure hands-on capacity building of local staff in order to ensure ongoing sustainability and quality of the response
· Identify urgent training needs in relation to technical standards
· Undertake other relevant activities as directed by the supervisor



Education
· Required: First-level university degree in medicine from a recognized university
· Desirable: Post graduate degree in public health
Professional experience
· Required: Three or more years proven experience in polio eradication
· Desirable: Previous work in high risk polio and outbreak situations
· Desirable: Demonstrated coordination and management skills in emergency situation
Language skills
· Fluent in English and Urdu (for KHI position)
· Fluent in English, Urdu and Sindhi (for position in Sukkur).
· Knowledge of Pashto is an asset

Other requirements
· Willing to spend prolonged periods away from duty station with depart to the field at short notice
